Hey Friends,
Sorry for the delay in posting. It’s been a C-R-A-Z-Y month! But, it has been a month of seeing God work in unbelievable ways in the Small Town Family’s lives.
Let me bring you up-to-date on what’s been happening since I announced our move.
I returned home on Friday, May 21 and we all agreed to move. The next day when I was going to get dinner, I found a relator. She ‘just happened’ to be showing a house on the next block over when I stopped and rolled down my window to ask about a house that recently sold on that block. She told me that she was a relator and I invited her to come see my house which we were going to be selling. She came, she saw, and she loved it! We signed a contract with her four days later. The ‘Coming Soon’ for sale sign was in our yard by Thursday – less than one week from deciding to move! We chose not to put it for sale just yet because we had to get the house ready to sell but we wanted to get the word out that we were selling.
I started my first round of consolidating and eliminating in the storage area of our basement. We had accumulated a lot of stuff within the 22 years in this house. I left all the sentimental items – baby clothes, memorabilia, photos – for later date when I could sit and ponder what to save.
Monday and Tuesday of that week went towards preparing for the Write to Publish Conference. I was at the conference June 3-6. Upon returning from the conference, I didn’t’ even have time to unpack bag or computer. The next day I was busy packing and moving boxes from the basement to the garage, cleaning out closets, and moving floor lamps in order to get ready for the carpet cleaners.
Before the carpet had time to fully dry, the construction crew and painters showed up at our house. Since we planned to stay in our current house for another 6 years, we had planned and put cash down towards a new master bathroom remodel in April. The remodel was scheduled to be completed June 13-15. The only time the painters were available were June 14-16. Of course, both jobs ran over into Monday. Plus, the 1.5 hour vinyl flooring job that was completed on Saturday ended up taking 6 hours instead. My nerves were just a bit frazzled as the realtor was going to be taking professional photos on Tuesday morning and we still needed to clean up drywall dust and stage the house.
By the time the photographer arrived 9:00 a.m., everything had come together. What the photographer and realtor didn’t see was the painter who was doing touch up at 7:00 a.m. that morning and Mr. Small Town and I hanging curtains, fluffing pillows, and arranging towels for the final house staging.
Even though it was a crazy time, we thoroughly enjoyed everyone who came into our home. They were very kind, understanding, and helpful. In the end, they thanked us for the opportunity to work in our home.
To make the week even more crazy, I decided to have a garage sale on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Remember all that stuff I had stored in my garage? Fortunately my niece was able to come and help me. What a blessing she was! It was an incredible time together and we thoroughly enjoyed everyone who came through our sale! How often does that happen?
Since the house ‘officially’ went on the market Tuesday, I also had showings during the garage sale. A couple came through on Thursday night and came back again on Friday night. They ended up writing their offer next to their car parked in front of our house! We had a contract signed by Sunday!! UNBELIEVABLE! Houses do NOT move that fast in our neighborhood. Four weeks since deciding to move, we sold our house! Everyone was astounded but knew that it was ONLY from God!
The next week we traveled to the new house – the one I found four weeks earlier. All the paperwork, wire transfers, and signatures had been completed and we closed on our new home – not even one week from selling our house and only 5 weeks after making the decision to move! UNBELIEVABLE! (Oh, we love the new house and are already calling it home!)
Of course, during all those busy weeks, I purposely scheduled last week as a ‘week of rest’. It was my light at the end of the tunnel. I did not pack. I did not clean. I did not write. I couldn’t. I was depleted. My brain, body, and soul needed nourished. The week ended yesterday and I’m back writing. (Feeling a bit guilty since I should be doing something else…!)
As I write this post, I can hardly believe all that has happened since May 21. This past month has been an amazing journey for Mr. Small Town, the Kid and I. Instead of being torn apart in the midst of all the stress and changes, the three of us have actually blossomed and grown closer in our relationships with each other. AND, there is NO doubt that God wants our family to move and to start this new adventure together. UNBELIEVABLE!
Blessings to all of you!
The Small Town Girl
p.s. We have 20 days still in our current house before the big truck comes. Lots of purging and packing yet to be done before we say our goodbyes.
I'd love to hear from you! Leave me comment on how this impacted you
