Hi Friends!
I attended the Write to Publish Writer’s Conference last week in Wheaton, IL. The conference was intense and very informative with excellent faculty and staff who are all published writers. I was blessed by attending and was able to network with other writers.
I had great feedback on the manuscript that I wrote. I was able to meet with two literary agents, two self publishing companies, and two established authors who provided valuable advice and mentoring throughout the week.
The two literary agents liked the story so far and encouraged me to keep writing the story. One agent said that I could market the book in a specialty market dealing with infertility and adoption. The other agent suggested that since my book would fall under the ‘memoir’ genre, it would be best to go with the self publishing route. Thomas Nelson, the only publisher who publishes memoirs, pursues big name celebrities or national news stories for their book memoirs. Very rarely would they publish a first-time author without a national platform. He suggested my book would serve as a reference for my readers to know me better and readers could purchase it directly from my website or Amazon.
A panel of authors affirmed that there is a movement now towards self publishing their books. New technology makes self publishing easier for an author to print, make book covers and contract editors to edit their writing. Authors can control the book which does not involve a huge financial investment from a big publishing house.
After listening to their feedback and God’s promptings, I’ve decided to keep writing the story (I’m only 1/3 of the way through) and then self publish it. My goal is to have the writing completed by December 1 with a publish date of March 1, 2016.
Wow! Now it’s in writing for everyone (including me!) to see. Thank you for coming along with me in this journey! Your prayers and words of encouragement to keep writing bless me!
Blessings to you my friend!
